Interesting article from RedWeb Android vs iPhone

"So straight away this doesn’t sound like a fair fight, there’s an obvious mismatch. We’re pitting a physical device up against code-based software. One is a tangible physical object and the other can only be experienced through such objects.

The iPhone is a revolutionary device, loved, if not worshipped by millions. It has changed the way we think about mobile phones and it’s no exaggeration to say for many people it has changed the way they live their lives. Apple’s dominance of the smart phone market has been based on doing things simply and doing them well. The iPhone never did everything a phone should do but what it did do, it did well.........."  Read the rest of the article from the link.

Street Photography in London at Museum of London

London Street Photography

18 February to 4 September 2011, FREE entry
Street photographs are at the heart of our understanding of London as a diverse and dynamic capital. They are characterised by an element of chance - a fortunate encounter, a fleeting expression, a momentary juxtaposition, capturing an ever-changing city.

This major new exhibition at the Museum of London showcases an extraordinary collection of London street photography with over 200 candid images of everyday life in the street. From sepia-toned scenes of horse-drawn cabs taken on bulky tripod-mounted cameras to 21st century Londoners digitally ‘caught on film’, explore how street photography has evolved from 1860 to the present day. Examine the relationship between photographers, London’s streets and the people who live on them, and reflect on the place of photography on London’s streets today as anti-terrorism and privacy laws grow ever tighter.

MelenCourses DSLRTwo January 29th 2011

Despite the fact it just about got above 0°c i think on Saturday but we preserved and Jon, Michael, Phil, Mark and Cat Wilyman certainly had a laugh.

We practised our slow shutters speeds creating water blurs on the River Gade at Great Gaddesden, then using graduated filters to tone down the sky plus exploring macro filters.

It was good to get to the Gaddesden Row Chequers and have a pint and something to eat.

MelenCourses DSLROne January 22nd 2011

We thought we would learn shutter speeds and continuous focusing by using Alistair Peck's raw power and speed, whilst taking plenty of photographs!   There were similar weather conditions to last week and the group happily braved the cold.

We learned about Aperture, Shutter Speeds, ISO, white balance and basic lighting skills
